Frequently Asked Questions
Which method produces the crunchiest results?
Deep frying is the gold standard for crunch, as the constant high heat of the oil creates an immediate seal. However, an air fryer is a very close second, offering that signature "shatter-crust" with significantly less oil.
Do I need to preheat the oven or air fryer?
Absolutely. Placing frozen fries into a cold oven or air fryer causes them to thaw slowly, resulting in a limp, soggy texture. Always wait for the appliance to reach full temperature before adding the fries to ensure the heat hits them instantly.
Why do my fries look dark on the outside but feel raw inside?
This usually happens if the temperature is too high. If the exterior browns too quickly, lower the heat by about 10–15 degrees next time. For the oven, moving the tray to a middle rack can also help the heat distribute more evenly.
Can I cook different styles of fries (like curly and straight) at the same time?
It’s not recommended. Different cuts have different surface areas and densities, meaning they cook at different speeds. If you must mix them, add the thicker cuts to the heat first and the thinner ones halfway through.
